Right? It's great! I guess it's not even fair to call it a return, in the sense that we shouldn't hold Rant against them (it was an interesting experiment, at least, and was clearly not meant to be their last release before a 7 year break.) Fave tunes: "Electric Shock," "7:04", "Mortals", and "Jeckyl" (what a great opening riff!"
I mean, it is a literal return in the sense they've been on hiatus for seven years and have now returned.

Haven't got to the point yet where I'm picking favorites, but "Jekyll" does rule pretty hard.

Also, while I've heard it -- cough -- I still need to actually knuckle under and pick up a copy of Rant. That cover of Richard Thompson's "Beeswing" is really pretty perverse, although not in a bad way!
This is a much better album than The New Pornographers's new one as well.
That is sitting in a stack on my desk waiting for me to finish ripping, converting, or otherwise adding the latest "Brian stubbed his toe on retail therapy and lost his mind, please send help" stack of purchases to get it into rotation. (Pretty sure I shot you the link for The Spreadsheet at some point, which I mention again 'cause it's only grown worse since.)

I did catch back up with Brill Bruisers and Whiteout Conditions the other week and... further study probably still warranted to figure out why I think the sound of his songwriting has mutated so severely after Together.
