I had started with a translation by Anthony Esolen, but found it too unwieldy. I am really happy by the translation by Robert Hollander and his wife Jean Hollander. He taught Dante for decades and his wife is also a poet. Their approachable and accurate translation helped me finish Inferno for the first time in my life!

Hopefully I'll persevere through the next two...
I've heard that their translation is great. It's relatively recent, right? Like, last ten years or so? I'll have to check it out!

There's a kind of funny quote about the Divine Comedy by Victor Hugo. I forget the whole thing, but the gist is, "Once the poem becomes happy, it becomes boring." And this is kind of true, but there's some seriously transcendent poetry in Paradiso.
