Oh, saw the two Maiden shows in Brooklyn. Had the worst nosebleed seats, but Jedi Mind Trickery got me down on the floor both nights:D Was worth seeing "Where Eagles Dare" and "Flight of Icarus". \,,/ to Nifelheim Erik #266 8-|
You mean, he's seen Maiden 266 times? That's hardcore! I love all the crazy stories about those guys basically spending all their Necropolis advances on Maiden bootlegs, ha ha!

My shit:

Idle Hands - Don't Waste Your Time, Mana. On my first few listens, I felt Mana was a bit of a comedown after the amazing EP, but having spent some time with it, I think it's just as good. What a cool band!

Ohm - Ohm. Bastille Day a couple weeks ago was the 20th anniversary of Gar Samuelson's death.

Ohmphrey - Ohmphrey. An amazing combination of Ohm and Umphrey's Magee. Way better than UG, and better than any of the Ohm albums except for the first one.

The Black Sea Orchestra - The Black Sea Project. Kosmigroov meets Bulgarian wedding music! Sign me the fuck UP!

Jaga Jazzist - Starfire. Had some long drives to take my son to camp this week, and this is one of my discs that he loves. It's a good one!

Mew : + -. Another one of my son's faves. Also a good one!

Impelliteri - Stand In Line. It's all downhill after the first track.

Herbie Hancock - Mwandishi. One of the best jazz albums of the 70s. Such deep grooves!

Obliveon - Nemesis. Upheaval driven by the nurture of grudge. The lyrics are amazing on this album, ha ha!

Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care. Peak NA, for sure. This is a proper A-list thrash album if you ask me!

Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind, Somewhere In Time. Saw them in Philly this week and it was, if not the best Maiden show I've ever seen, definitely the best Maiden setlist I've been a witness to. The stage show was completely insane, and the band sounded awesome, except for Nicko, who should be fired. He's approaching Abbadon-levels of shittiness at this point. So fucking bad! I don't understand why Harris and Dickinson put up with his shit.

Memento Mori - Songs for the Apocalypse Vol. IV. I vastly prefer their cover of "Animal Magnatism" to the original. Klaus Meine was trying to sound sexy, I think, and failed utterly. Messiah, instead, goes for a creeper vibe, and he fucking NAILS it.

Mastodon - Leviathan, Blood Mountain. I heard the first track of Leviathan on Sirius and it inspired me to spin the whole album. Then I decided to give Blood Mountain another shot, as this album has always left me cold. It's still a weird weak spot between the band's two best albums.

Queensryche Tribute - Warning: Minds of Raging Empires. On Siegen. Some good cuts, some bad.

Imbalance - Burial of Consciousness. Second demo from this Norwegian thrash band. Good stuff, like a better take on Carnal Forge.

Striker - Striker. Saw them a couple weeks ago and was very impressed. Not quite as good on album, but still solid. The singer is top notch.

Shok Paris - Go For the Throat. Loves me some Vic Hix.

Sodom - Persecution Mania. Alarmed about my life. Like that Obliveon album, this one features lyrics that are really, really great despite the English being rather poor.

Gygax - High Fantasy. One of the best albums of the year, imo. Tremendous Thin Lizzy-esque retrad with absolutely killer guitar riffs. The singer will maybe not be for everyone, but I think his melodies are really hooky and he makes the best of a fairly limited range and a tone better suited to stoner rock. Their secret weapon, though, is their drummer, who plays with a Robertsonian swing that basically no other young metal drummers even attempt. Looking forward to seeing them live again.

Gypsyhawk - Revelry & Resillience. The main two dudes from Gygax were originally in this band, who sound fairly similar but just weren't as good. The first Gypsyhawk album is really good, and this one is fine, but definitely not as good, and neither of their albums can stand up against even the weakest Gygax album (which would be the second one, I guess, but all three are solid.)
