I know recorded music is supposed to be on the decline, but it sure does not feel that way. It does not even seem like the album format has been much less common. Will the amount of metal released ever decline?
Maybe. But metal is so varied that I highly doubt it. Subgenres may fade, though.

Has any musical genre looked like it would fade away in the past few decades?
Eurodance is dead. Disco is barely holding on, though Italo Disco and similar subgenres are having somewhat of a revival.
For example, are there a lot fewer rock albums being produced these days? Rock seems to be less popular, but I assume there are still a ton of smaller rock bands out there, just like there are metal bands.
Music popularity can be insanely regional. Ever been to Germany? Those fuckers like some crazy stuff.
You know how we keep talking about how power metal - and especially euro-cheese - is slowing down? Yeah, Finland didn't get the memo... it's a freaking mainstay in their Eurovision contest.
Also, you don't hear harmonica in the radio anymore? Tell that to the slavic nations.
My point is: There's always some weird ass group of folks who will like anything, meaning most genres will never die. Except for Eurodance. Let's keep that in the grave.
