Morta Skuld - Wounds Deeper Than Time
Morta Skuld is back! I used to love For All Eternity. Classic 90s American death metal that one. This time sounding much better of course with modern production and no more 90s murk. If you enjoy bands like Bolt Thrower and the like or just classic heavy grooving, you should love this.
I might previously have said, more or less reflexively, that I hate Morta Skuld. That style of death metal never connected with me, and maybe a few too many trips to the Milwaukee Metalfest in the late 90s/early 00s definitively squashed whatever interest in these sorts of bands. But, hey, I like Bolt Thrower, so I checked this album out, and to my surprise, I didn't hate it. It's pretty good, actually. Halfway through the first song I thought I would have to reconsider my relationship with the MOrta Skulds and Fleshgrinds and Rottrevores and everyone on JL America and all the death metal bands that ruined 90% of the approximately 300 Dwell tribute album released around the turn of the millenium.

BUT! Then I got to the solo, and holy shit, I don't think I ever considered the possibility that a guitar solo could be so bad as to ruin an entire song. I was flabbergasted by the shittiness of it. And then there came another, which was FAR worse than the first. These might be the all-time worst lead guitarists in the history of metal. I couldn't make it through 3 songs, because the leads were just that fucking bad.

But, I still have to contend with the possibility that maybe I've grown out of my distaste for this kind of Rob K death metal. It's a scary place I find myself it, and I thank you not at all, sir!
