I have finally purchased something that was released in 2017! A three CD haul!

Overkill Grinding Wheel. The album has two songs with "wheel" references. Add to that "Wheels" from ReliXIV, and titles like "Mean Green Killing Machine," and it feels like they are running out of lyrical ideas. One thing that I immediately notice is how uncharacteristically melodic this album feels. It's got some guitar and vocal harmonies that the band simply never employed before! Overall it's a pretty solid album. It's not a straight-up masterpiece that White Devil Armory was, but still pretty good and, due to the aforementioned harmonies, feels sort of fresh. My favorite song is "Come Heavy."

Astral Doors Black Eyed Children. Sort of meh. I love this band. I love their two last outings. But this one doesn't really have any hooks. Maybe it will grow on me, but for now I don't feel guilty talking over it, as it's playing in the car.

White Skull Will of the Strong. OMG. Frederica de Boni is back, and the band hasn't missed a beat since 2000! I love this album! Melodic, powerful, and very soulful, due to de Boni's singing that sounds identical to her singing on WS seminal releases from 18 and 17 years ago. Virtually every song somehow resonates with me, although "Metal Indian" (stupid title, I know), title track, and "I'm Your Queen" stick out immediately. Superb production and sound.

Now all I need is the new Nocturnal Rites and I'm all set for the year. Back to classics.
