I buy some 80s's vinyl releases and archive them to hi-res digital. It's a giant pain in the ass, but occasionally the results make for a far better-sounding recording than what's officially available on digital (Rush - Fly by Night only sounds good on vinyl, all digital releases have been ass). It's also a deep rabbit hole if you're a perfectionist.

So, in answer to your question of "is vinyl worth it?": No. Stay away, especially if you mostly listen to stuff released after about 1992. Nearly everything after that point is shitty compressed digital recordings anyway, so there's no benefit at all to vinyl in those cases.
