Yeah, you should check it out. I'm not generally fond of these young hipster black metal bands from the US (your Liturgys and Deafheavens, etc.) but the clean singing is what sets Astronoid apart. I think the singer came from Vattnet, actually.Astronoid - Air.I kept seeing references to this last year. I listened to one track, but I can't recall which one. I see it's "name your price" on bandcamp, I may take advantage and give it a thorough listen.
I think it's okay, too. My writeup makes it sound like I like the album more than I do. Clever riffs and an interesting sound don't always quite add up to a great album, and this disc is proof. I still like that they exist, because there aren't a lot of metal bands out there making any effort to do their own thing, and Moontooth for sure is.Moon Tooth - Chromaparagon.I need to give this another go. I thought it was okay, initially. I guess seeing them live may make a difference.
Those dudes are all really just guests, and they're well integrated. Kamasi Washington is also a frequent collaborator. Also, this video is great:Thundercat - everything. Seeing him in a couple weeks, and still kind of obsessed. He has a new album due soonWhoever was in charge of artwork did a great job, it looks like it came out in 1974. I guess this could be alright, despite appearances by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. I'm definitely not on the Kendrick Lamar train, but he seems like the "go-to" rapper for this type of thing.
