Yeah. I don't think it happens much right now. People would rather spend $100 to divide up between 10 artists, than say $50 to their two favorites.
It did happen with Radiohead though, because the distribution mechanism was made to be that way.
Its going to be tough, don't get me wrong. But I really don't see it happening any other way. -Unless- good, flexible laws are created, and ISPs are forced to filter out illegal file sharing and it becomes more expensive to get around this, than to just go buy/download a CD legally.
Maybe if enough Torrents are shut down things will start changing. But its so easy to just start a new one and to put the site in some countries with lax laws. So it will require Tier 1 through Tier 3 support to do more.
